I have increasingly been dealing with questions about gender and identity in the past weeks. I find it intriguing how certain move-ments, attitudes and behaviours are attributed and commonly re-cognized as being natural or default to a specific gender.

Personally I believe that gender is a constructed concept which is maintained through performing gender-specific behaviours.

I see it as part of my current personal progress to actively work on disidentifying from pa-triarchal and heteronormative ideas around gender roles.

The video is showing a group of friends who are experimenting with hair dye, it is displaying brief moments of their inter-actions. I manipulated the footage in a way that the
identity /identification of the characters becomes ambiguous.
The character’s bodies never appear in their wholeness, instead separate body parts
are shown.

I like the idea of being able to ‘disassemble’ bodies and their associated identities and i fur-thermore want to investigate
the following question:

What do we feel when we fail to identify or categorize a person?
